2025 IS PASSION SEASON AGAIN IN ERL

Every six years, the time comes: In Erl, the oldest Passion venue in the German-speaking region, the story of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ is performed in the Passion Playhouse. Rehearsals for this start in autumn of the previous year and have already begun this time around All Saints 2024.

Almost a third of Erl's population, including 600 local amateur actors, are there. Regardless of whether you are a toddler or a pensioner, a 400-year-old tradition is celebrated together here, which is attended by more than 40,000 visitors every six years. The special atmosphere of the Passion Play House, which has now established itself as Erl's landmark, impressively rounds off the entire experience. On a performance day, up to 1,500 people can experience the special acoustics and unique atmosphere in front of Hartmut Schörghofer's stage design.

From May to October, the ensemble will stage the piece on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30pm with its modern and current lyrics by MartinLeutGeb, who will also direct. The passion music composed by Christian Kolonovits himself is presented by the orchestra and the chorlive in order to deeply touch the people in the audience seats. On performance Sundays, a service is also celebrated at 10:00 in the Passion Play House. Apart from that, in addition to an extensive supporting program, there is also a distinctive Way of the Cross to explore.
